Rehearsals are normally held at Old Nick HQ (50A Letitia Street, North Hobart, although, in the lead-up to opening night we will move into the theatre.
Rehearsals are normally held two weeknights per week and on Sunday afternoons. Towards the end of March, rehearsal times will be extended to finish later during the week and all day Sundays. There may be extra ‘backup’ rehearsals added in if required such as on Saturdays.
Not every cast member will be called to every rehearsal but the cast are expected to be available at these times as the rehearsal schedule may change at short notice.
Your production team will provide you with further information and a full rehearsal schedule at the time of auditions.
The rehearsal schedule for this project has been sent out by Mark via email and on our Facebook group already.
The schedule is full on, as it is much shorter than usual for some major productions. There are a lot of singing, movement and scenes to block – so be prepared. We may have to throw in some extra days so please check all your calls and mark your diaries.
Whilst it is a big-time commitment it is also going to be another amazing extra-curricular experience and a massive student production of a very famous musical. Remember theatre is a team sport and we ask you for your full commitment.
Please help the process by taking time BEFORE each rehearsal to do a little preparation: for example, read-over the scene, go through the music, make sure you know the words, and revise the work done previously.
Always bring your script & vocal book (Paper or Electronic), pencil [2B] and eraser, even if you don't think you’ll need them.
Rehearsals are usually planned to be either focussing on ‘dance’, ‘vocal’, ‘script work / blocking’ or a combination of both. This will be outlined to you the week prior but it’s best to come prepared for physical activity including water, appropriate clothing and footwear, as in showbiz things can change.
You will always be provided with an opportunity for both a physical and vocal warm up.
At Old Nick this means arriving 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal or are going to be late please notify the director and production manager as soon as possible.
"Being late" means arriving at 10.02 AM for a 10 AM call or at 7.05 PM for a 7.00 PM call. "Being on time" means arriving 15 minutes early, so we can start promptly. Lateness is inconvenient to all concerned and will not be tolerated.
“Early is on time, on time is late and late in unacceptable.”
IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE LATE, OR CAN'T MAKE REHEARSAL DUE TO BEING SICK...
….. TEXT AND LET US KNOW! It is frustrating rehearsing with cast missing. If we know you are not going to be there, we can (sometimes) re-schedule different material. But if you don't turn up and we don't know where you are, it can be hard to know how to proceed. So please, let us know.
First person to contact for Cast Rehearsals, blocking etc is: Mark Holmes 0447 081 525
Double-check the schedule against the scenes and casting lists to verify which rehearsals you need to attend. If unsure, ASK - do not just presume that you are or are not required.
If you are ABSENT AND/OR LATE 3 TIMES, WITHOUT GIVING PRIOR NOTICE, then you will be asked to leave the production. In other words, "Three strikes and you're out".
We have made this rule because:
such behaviour is unfair on other cast and crew members.
many people audition and don't get in, so we ask for commitment from those who do.
USE OF THE REHEARSAL SPACES
The following points apply:
No smoking or vaping inside or nearby any rehearsal venue
No alcohol or drugs before or during rehearsals, as well as in and around the rehearsal space.
Please keep the rehearsal space clean and tidy – we are not here to clean up after you
Spray any aerosols (deodorant, ect.) outside the rehearsal space
The spaces can be cold or extremely hot. Wear/bring suitable clothes and comfortable shoes
Rehearsals are hard work sessions, so please limit chatter. All rehearsal venues have other rooms or spaces where you can chat, catch-up on the news, etc. We will all have fun when the hard work is done
There are no food or beverage outlets close to Old Nick HQ.
If you have access to transport, the nearest food outlets are on the North Hobart strip. On weekends you will receive a dedicated meal break with enough time to drive to North Hobart. However, on weeknights the schedule is tighter and it is likely you will not have time to drive somewhere to get food or drinks.
Therefore, please bring with you anything you may need during rehearsal, or you can take advantage of Uber Eats. You also may find you are quite hungry after rehearsals and shows - at which time the food outlets will likely be closed - so please plan ahead especially for dinners.
It’s not uncommon for cast members to feel slightly nauseous after eating and then engaging in strenuous exercise such as warm ups, dance routines and moving across the stage. Each person should make their own decisions and plans, but we’ve found that eating at least one hour prior to rehearsal or after rehearsal - supplemented with light snacks in between such as muesli bars or sandwiches works well.
It’s also common to lose weight during production! While this is music to some people’s ears please do monitor your weight and health and ensure you adjust your intake to match your level of exercise and energy expenditure. If you are unsure, speak with your GP and let them know about your involvement in the production.
We need to abide by the covid-19 rules set by the Tasmanian Government and other regulatory bodies. This includes ensuring we are using hand sanitiser or washing hands frequently and STAYING HOME when you’re sick. These rules MUST be followed to ensure the success of the production and for everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
